Rastoke

If you take the 'old road' towards Dalmatia, about 100 km from Zagreb, you will come across Slunj, a town situated on the banks of the Slunjčica and Korana rivers.

Situated where the rivers meet, the beautiful waterfront town of Rastoke also known as “Small Plitvice” is found.

The Pearl of Slunj, Rastoke, were created by the natural occurrence in which the green waters of the Slunjčica river flow through the sedimentary rocks in Korana, creating a multitude of waterfalls, rapids, small lakes and cascades, the most famous of which are Buk, Hrvoje and Vilina kosa. Many otters can also once again be found there after a long period of absence.

In this beautiful natural environment, the first houses were built about 300 years ago and this harmony of nature and man was entered in the Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Regional Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Zagreb in 1969.

In Rastoke there are about thirty households today that rent houses, rooms and cater to tourist. If you choose to visit this pearl of nature, you will be able to enjoy it at any time of the year. From spring when nature wakes and is full of greenery, through summer when everything is blooming and full of life, autumn that is abundant with fruit and vegetables, to winter when everything is white from snow while the houses offer warmth and comfort from their fireplaces.
While visiting Rastoke be sure to try the autochthonous trout served at the local restaurants caught fresh from Slunjčica rapids. In addition to the trout, try the famous delicious homemade bread made from several types of grain and rich in nutritional value.

Rent a vehicle in one of the Zagreb offices and take the D1 road over Karlovac and Tušilović to Slunj and Rastoke. If you are coming from the direction of Dalmatia, you can rent a vehicle at the Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik offices and take the D1 road through Udbina, Korenica and Plitvice Lakes.
